Letters from Sylvia Pankhurst

Letters are time-space travel machines with the power to connect two individuals – recipient and sender – at the same moment and place regardless of their physical locations. They faciliate an exchange of emotions within a shared window of mutual care.

The letters, fictionally written and sent by Sylvia Pankhurst, are extracts from her existing letters that she consistently wrote to influential politicians and friends throughout her life. These pieces are intricately woven together in a puzzle of sentences, conveying a supportive message to activists facing the challenges of persisting amidst the rise of fascism.

Tatiana Pinto is an architect and independent researcher investigating the politics of the built environment, its associated social inequalities, and the responsibilities of architects in todays society.

Francobollo Ribelle / Rebel Stamp is a confabulation that brings together key political figures of anticolonial and antifascist resistance in Italy. It is a fictional dialogue that brings their stories and memories into the present.

Trialogue is an imaginary conversation between three historical figures: Lina Bo Bardi, Pietro Maria Bardi and Giuseppe Spatrisano raising questions about architects‘ social responsibility, culture as a colonial tool, and sexism in architecture.

Trialogue Act 1 (2020) is a workshop based on a mapping Works, About, News methodology used for an investigation about Tomteboda, an old post terminal in Stockholm. Through mapping, we will discuss different.

Trialogue Act 2 stages a dialogue between Benito Mussolini, Sylvia Pankhurst, and Haile Selassie, drawing on their public speeches and writings. In this encounter, Sylvia Pankhurst emerges as a figure of resistance, posing a central question: How does one position oneself in the face of injustice?

Letters is a fictitious speculative exchange of letters between Sylvia Pankhurst and myself, where Sylvia encourages me through her words and actions to persevere in anti-fascist activism.

Banners explores collective pratices of embroidery as feminist form of political activism. With Åsa Norman, Frida Hållander, and Katarina Burin.

 

 

Memorie Ribelli / Rebel Memories is a homage to anti-fascist and anti-colonial resistance movements. It revives the memory of resistance by bringing back its figures and their histories, learning from their actions and struggles.

Carta ao Arquiteto (Letter to the architect) is a confabulation with Oscar Niemeyer, in the form of a letter questioning his responsibility in the construction of Brasília and its links to the attempted coup d’état against Brazil’s democratically elected government in 2023.

Diálogos Transatlânticos revisits the correspondence between Bruno Zevi and Lina Bo Bardi from 1945 to 1974. An epistolary friendship through which they exchanged and debated ideas on architecture, Eurocentrism, modernism, and the cultural and political complexities of architecture.

Trialogue of Pedagogy is a fictional conversation with Paulo Freire, in which his words guide my self-reflection on the years I participated in Decolonizing Architecture Advanced Studies.

o banquete / the banquet raises central questions of inclusion, democracy, and representation, challenging who is allowed to sit at the table and take part in banquets, symbolic and real ones.
